Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has called on the Bitcoin community to prioritize defenses against potential quantum computing threats. Speaking at the All-In Summit 2025, Yakovenko highlighted a 50% likelihood of a quantum breakthrough within five years, urging Bitcoin to adopt quantum-resistant signature schemes. This urgency stems from the rapid technological advancements and AI integration. Despite Yakovenko's warnings, some Bitcoin advocates, including Blockstream CEO Adam Back, argue that current quantum computers do not yet threaten Bitcoin's encryption. However, they acknowledge that future developments could change this. Transitioning to post-quantum security could necessitate a hard fork, a move that faces resistance within the crypto community.
