Solana and Google Cloud have launched Pay.sh, a new stablecoin payment system designed for AI agents to access and pay for APIs using Solana-based stablecoins. This platform enables software agents to interact with Google Cloud services, including Gemini, BigQuery, and Vertex AI, as well as over 50 community API providers. Payments are processed on a per-request basis, allowing transactions worth fractions of a cent through Solana wallets.
The Pay.sh infrastructure utilizes the x402 open payment standard, which facilitates direct internet payments via the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code. Supported by major companies like Google, Stripe, AWS, Visa, and Mastercard, this standard aims to streamline AI-native internet payments. Additionally, the system integrates the Machine Payments Protocol by Tempo and Stripe, enhancing machine-to-machine commerce capabilities. Solana's low transaction costs and fast settlement speeds make it an attractive option for small API transactions, positioning it competitively in the expanding AI payment infrastructure sector.
