Six Bitcoin wallets that had been inactive for more than a decade transferred a combined 553.59 BTC between Aug. 16 and Aug. 26, with the holdings valued at about $40.15 million at the time of the moves. The wallets dated back to 2011 through 2014, according to Galaxy Research tracking data cited by Decrypt. The oldest wallet had been dormant for 15.1 years since June 2011 and moved 8.54 BTC. A separate wallet inactive for 14 years transferred 212 BTC, worth about $13.66 million, while the latest transaction involved 40 BTC from a wallet dormant for 14.2 years. That transfer was sent to an address labeled as belonging to German crypto custodian Boerse Stuttgart Digital. Galaxy Research said two of the wallets carried the label "Salomon Client Dusted," linking them to litigation in New York's "John Doe" case involving an attempt to claim 39,069 long-dormant Bitcoin addresses. Recent hardware wallet security incidents may also have prompted some long-term holders to move funds, though the exact reason remains unconfirmed.
