U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Andy Kim have called on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to conduct a national security review of a $500 million foreign investment in World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a company linked to the Trump family. The senators expressed concerns over a foreign entity acquiring a 49% stake, making it WLFI's largest shareholder. They highlighted potential risks, including access to sensitive U.S. citizen data and ties to Chinese military interests. The lawmakers' letter, dated February 13, 2026, questions whether the transaction qualifies as a "covered transaction" under the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) guidelines. They also seek clarity on whether a new fast-track program for foreign investors was used. Warren and Kim have set a March 5 deadline for Bessent to respond, emphasizing the need for an impartial investigation. The White House and Treasury have yet to comment on the matter.
