Security researcher Taylor Hornby, known for uncovering a critical vulnerability in Zcash, plans to include Monero in his upcoming audit efforts. Hornby identified a flaw in the Zcash Orchard privacy pool that could have allowed attackers to mint unlimited counterfeit ZEC tokens. This vulnerability, which existed for nearly a year, led to a 38% drop in Zcash's price within 24 hours of its disclosure.
Hornby, who used Anthropic's Opus 4.8 AI model for his research, chose to report the vulnerability to the Zcash team, whom he regards as "like family," rather than exploit it. He has since joined Shielded Labs to focus on protocol vulnerability research and intends to apply for the Zcash Holders Fund to support further auditing work.
