SBI Holdings, a prominent Japanese financial group, has announced plans to acquire a majority stake in Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinhako. The acquisition will be executed through SBI Ventures Asset, a subsidiary of SBI Holdings, which has signed a letter of intent with Holdbuild, Coinhako's parent company. This strategic move aims to bolster SBI's presence in the cryptocurrency sector. The transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approval, will see SBI Holdings gain a controlling interest in Coinhako, making it a consolidated subsidiary. While the financial terms and specific ownership details have not been disclosed, the acquisition is expected to provide SBI with a legal license in Singapore, a key regulated crypto market in Asia. The investment structure and share purchase plan are still under negotiation.
