SB Energy, a SoftBank subsidiary, has secured a lease from the U.S. Department of Energy to construct a 10 GW data center campus in Piketon, Ohio, on the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant site. The PORTS TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS will include 10 GW of new generation capacity, predominantly natural gas-powered, and involves a $4.2 billion deal with American Electric Power Ohio to enhance power infrastructure, aiming for grid connection by 2029. The project, supported by Japanese and American entities, also commits to cleaning up nuclear contamination.
Additionally, the site will host a uranium processing facility by Oklo and Centrus Energy, and Meta plans to develop a nuclear power park with a capacity of up to 1.2 GW. Key participants in the initiative include Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, and major financial institutions like Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.
