Samsung Securities has announced its decision to acquire a 2% stake in Dunamu, the operator of the cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, by purchasing 697,487 existing shares. The transaction is valued at approximately 306.373 billion KRW, equivalent to USD 204 million. This strategic investment is aimed at enhancing Samsung Securities' competitiveness in the digital asset sector and fostering synergies. The move comes amid signals from South Korea's financial regulators indicating a potential relaxation of restrictions separating finance and virtual assets. This development reflects a broader trend of integration between traditional financial institutions and virtual asset trading platforms.
