Roger Wattenhofer, head of research at Anza and professor at ETH Zurich, redefined blockchain as a trust system rather than just a network system during his speech at the Global On-chain Asset Summit. Speaking on October 2, Wattenhofer emphasized that blockchain should not be referred to as Web3, highlighting its core attributes of simplicity, speed, scalability, and trust-centricity. He outlined the necessity for future blockchain infrastructure to balance bandwidth, latency, and security to support the widespread adoption of decentralized applications. Additionally, Wattenhofer pointed out the long-term challenge of designing validator incentive mechanisms to prevent speculation and ensure timely voting and decentralization.
