RNS.ID, the digital ID project for the Republic of Palau, has announced a crackdown on counterfeit Palauan IDs used to bypass know-your-customer (KYC) procedures. The initiative will integrate with global fraud blacklists and implement secondary verification processes. This includes providing an official API to KYC vendors and partner platforms to verify document details such as numbers, issue dates, and photos.
Individuals failing the secondary verification will be marked as fraudulent, with their information synchronized to a global fraud database. Those identified as forgers or impersonators will face permanent bans, and their details will be shared for automated identification by institutions worldwide. Additionally, evidence will be collected and transferred to jurisdictions like China for prosecuting those involved in forging state documents and fraud.
