A Reuters survey found that 85% of economists expect the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by 25 basis points at its September meeting, lifting the rate to 3.75%-4.00%. The move would be the first rate increase since July 2023.
Nearly 53% of forecasters expect at least one additional rate hike by the end of March, reversing last week’s view that rates would remain unchanged. Expectations for rate cuts in 2027 have also faded following the latest inflation report.
