A report by 10x Research highlights a significant shift in retail investor focus from altcoins to cryptocurrency-related stocks, resulting in a substantial market capitalization gap. According to the report, if retail investors, particularly in South Korea, had not diverted their attention to these stocks, the altcoin market cap could have been approximately $800 billion higher. This shift has been exacerbated by Bitcoin's rising institutional appeal, creating a nearly trillion-dollar disparity between Bitcoin and altcoin valuations. Historically, South Korean traders have favored altcoins, with local exchanges accounting for over 80% of trading volume. However, recent data shows a decline in altcoin interest, with daily trading volumes on South Korean exchanges dropping significantly. This trend, coupled with recent international trade tensions, has led to a $131 billion loss in altcoin market value, part of a broader $380 billion market decline. 10x Research suggests this represents a structural shift in investor behavior, with altcoins struggling to attract new capital.
