Qian Zhimin, also known as Yadi Zhang, has been sentenced to 11 years and 8 months in a London court for orchestrating a massive investment fraud scheme involving 40 billion yuan (US$5.6 billion). The fraud included laundering funds to purchase 61,000 bitcoins, marking the largest crypto asset seizure in UK history, with the bitcoins now valued at approximately US$6.4 billion.
Prosecutors revealed that Qian fled China using a fake passport, traveling through multiple countries before her arrest in the UK. She used the laundered funds to acquire luxury properties and valuables, and intended to sell Bitcoin to finance a self-proclaimed "nation" called Liberland. British authorities are currently working on returning the seized assets to the defrauded investors.
