PrismML has open-sourced its Bonsai Image 4B model, designed for on-device image generation on laptops and smartphones. The model includes two compact versions: a 1-bit version at 0.93 GB and a Ternary version at 1.21 GB, both significantly smaller than the original 7.75 GB model. These versions are optimized for low-memory hardware, with the 1-bit version achieving an 8.3x reduction in size. Despite their reduced size, both versions maintain high performance, retaining 88% and 95% of the full-precision model's capabilities, respectively.
The Bonsai Image 4B model is available under the Apache 2.0 license, and its deployment packages for Apple Silicon devices are 3.42 GB and 3.88 GB. The accompanying iOS app, Bonsai Studio, enables offline image generation on iPhones without requiring subscriptions or cloud API requests, ensuring all processing is done locally.
