Polymarket, a prediction market platform, is under scrutiny following allegations of paying influencers through personal accounts to promote its products without disclosure. Reports indicate that Matthew Modabber, Polymarket's Chief Marketing Officer, transferred approximately $2.5 million to over 800 individuals via his personal PayPal account from January 2025 to February 2026. Of this, at least $350,000 was directed to content creators like Nick Shirley and Alex LoRusso.
At least 20 influencers reportedly posted around 490 pieces of content related to Polymarket on social media platform X, without indicating these were paid promotions. The content, some of which was provided by Polymarket, highlighted the platform's prediction accuracy on topics such as Trump's re-election and xAI collaborations. The FTC mandates disclosure of substantial connections between influencers and advertisers, but has yet to respond to this situation.
