POAP, the digital badge platform, announced it will transition to maintenance mode starting March 16, 2026, due to limited growth and challenges in expanding its infrastructure. New issuers will lose access to the issuing interface, but existing issuers can continue using current tools. The collector interface, API, and integrations will remain operational, though development will cease, potentially slowing some operations.
POAP acknowledged that digital collectibles are still evolving and current tools often reflect system constraints rather than community needs. The platform plans to focus on developing open collectible standards and supporting platforms that enable permissionless collectible creation. Previously, in January 2022, POAP secured $10 million in funding to advance its Ethereum NFT badge application.
