Paraguay plans to initiate a state-run Bitcoin mining operation using confiscated mining rigs from illegal operations. The government, in collaboration with Morphware and the state-controlled electricity firm ANDE, aims to utilize the country's surplus energy for this project. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to formalize the initiative.
Despite the potential challenges, such as the outdated technology of the confiscated machines, experts see this as a positive step. Nelson Cristaldo, an energy expert, noted the difficulty in profiting from older equipment but praised the government's innovative approach. Fernando Arriola of BC Mining highlighted the opportunity for Paraguay to improve its industry reputation and potentially establish a Bitcoin reserve.
