OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent framework, has banned all crypto-related keywords following a scam involving a fake token. During a rebranding phase, scammers exploited the transition to launch a fraudulent Solana-based token, CLAWD, which briefly reached a $16 million market cap before crashing over 90% after the founders disavowed any connection.
The incident occurred when OpenClaw's accounts were compromised during a name change from "Clawdbot" to "OpenClaw." Founder Peter Steinberger, who has since joined OpenAI, emphasized that he would never issue a token and warned against any projects claiming otherwise. In response, the OpenClaw Discord server has prohibited mentions of "Bitcoin" and "crypto," even in technical contexts, to distance itself from the crypto space.
