OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Clinicians, a specialized version of its AI model designed to support clinical workflows, available at no cost to verified U.S. medical professionals including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists. This version incorporates advanced models to address clinical inquiries and features a new Skills function for saving common workflows as templates. It also includes a clinical search tool that retrieves peer-reviewed literature with citations and a deep research mode for conducting medical literature reviews.
The platform ensures HIPAA compliance through an optional Business Associate Agreement, and user conversations are not used for model training. Prior to its release, OpenAI's physician advisors tested nearly 7,000 dialogues, achieving a 99.6% safety and accuracy rating. In benchmark tests, ChatGPT for Clinicians cited authoritative sources more frequently than human physicians. Additionally, OpenAI introduced the HealthBench Professional benchmark, where GPT-5.4 scored 59.0, surpassing other AI models and human physician responses.
