OpenAI has announced plans to invest over $234 million in establishing an artificial intelligence laboratory in Singapore. This initiative is part of a multi-year partnership with the Singapore government aimed at bolstering the country's AI development strategy. The new lab will be OpenAI's first applied AI facility outside the United States. The investment will see OpenAI's technology team in Singapore grow to more than 200 members over the coming years. This move aligns with Singapore's strategic focus on artificial intelligence and OpenAI's efforts to form global partnerships to stay ahead of competitors like Anthropic and Google. OpenAI had previously set up an office in Singapore in 2024.
