OpenAI reported a significant adjusted net loss margin of 122% in the first quarter of 2026, despite generating approximately $57 billion in revenue. This figure outpaced competitor Anthropic by about $10 billion. However, Anthropic's annualized revenue has surged to nearly $450 billion, surpassing OpenAI's $300 billion. OpenAI's growth was driven by Codex code agents, enterprise sales, and advertising tests for ChatGPT. Despite the financial challenges, OpenAI secured $122 billion in new funding from major suppliers like Amazon and NVIDIA. Both OpenAI and Anthropic are planning initial public offerings as early as the fourth quarter of 2026. On the user front, ChatGPT's average weekly active users reached 905 million in Q1, a decline from February's peak of 920 million, but paid subscriptions rose to 55 million. OpenAI aims to generate $102 billion in annual revenue from ChatGPT advertising by 2030.
