OpenAI has launched Workspace Agents, a new product designed to automate team workflows by transforming repeatable processes into shareable, executable agents. Powered by Codex, these agents can access files, invoke tools, and perform tasks continuously in the background. Users can describe their team's workflows to ChatGPT, which then creates an agent that can be used within ChatGPT or Slack, allowing for ongoing adjustments. Workspace Agents are designed for structured, repeatable workflows that require multiple tools and continuous operation. They can read and save files, call connected tools, and execute code, operating under predefined permissions and control rules. This feature is available in the research preview for ChatGPT's Business, Enterprise, Education, and Teacher plans, with role-based permission controls for administrators. OpenAI outlines five typical use cases for Workspace Agents, including software review, product feedback aggregation, weekly report generation, lead follow-up, and third-party risk assessment. These scenarios highlight the agents' ability to streamline processes by connecting disparate tools and automating sequential tasks, while still allowing for human oversight in critical decision-making steps.
