OpenAI has raised the default context length for GPT-6.1 Sol from 272,000 to 500,000 tokens when accessed through Codex and ChatGPT Work. The 80% increase aims to reduce context compaction and improve performance for tasks requiring sustained retention of large information sets over extended periods.
Users retain the ability to manually adjust context settings, with GPT-6.1 Sol supporting a maximum capacity of 1 million tokens. OpenAI Codex head Tibo Sottiaux confirmed that the default context length is scheduled for further increases in future updates.
