OpenAI has announced the expansion of its "Stargate" data center infrastructure project with the addition of five new sites over the next three years, totaling 7 gigawatts of power capacity. The announcement was made at OpenAI's flagship site in Abilene, Texas, with partners Oracle and SoftBank. The new data centers will be located in Lordstown, Ohio, Shackelford and Milam, Texas, Doña Ana, New Mexico, and an undisclosed location in the Midwest.
OpenAI stated that these new sites will enable the company to complete its original plan ahead of schedule. The company is also evaluating additional locations and aims to secure a $500 billion investment commitment for 10 gigawatts of power by the end of 2025.
