OpenAI is expanding its partnership with Samsung Electronics into semiconductors and enterprise AI services as it advances development of its own chips.
Harrison Kim, OpenAI Korea’s general manager, said in Seoul that one of the most advanced and recognized areas of cooperation with Samsung Electronics is joint production and research and development of next-generation chips. Samsung Electronics said it could not confirm customer-related information.
Kim said demand for memory chips will continue to grow as more advanced chips are used for faster and more complex computing tasks, making cooperation with Korean semiconductor suppliers a priority for OpenAI’s local office. OpenAI said ChatGPT enterprise users among Korean companies and institutions surged about 27-fold year over year as of the end of August.
