More than 100 technology and financial services organizations, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft, called on organizations and governments to make cyber defense a top leadership priority and address existing software security weaknesses, according to an open letter released Thursday. The letter urged cybersecurity firms to strengthen defenses against AI-driven attacks and asked leading AI companies to provide critical infrastructure defenders with AI access, funding and training. The signatories said improving AI model capabilities could enable more frequent and more sophisticated cyber intrusions in the coming months, citing recent incidents involving advanced AI models, including an OpenAI model unexpectedly breaching Hugging Face in July.
