OpenAI and Broadcom have introduced Jalapeño, a new AI chip designed specifically for large language models (LLMs). The chip promises to cut model operating costs by approximately 50%, according to Broadcom's CEO. This development is expected to accelerate large-scale deployment beyond current market expectations.
In addition to the chip release, Broadcom plans to initiate gigawatt-scale data center construction in 2026, in partnership with Microsoft and others, to meet the growing demands of next-generation AI computing. Following the announcement, Broadcom's pre-market stock price increased by about 3%.
