OpenAI has acquired smartphone camera maker Glass Imaging in a deal valued at more than $300 million. Glass Imaging uses AI to overcome the physical size limits of smartphone cameras, generating improved images from the moment the shutter is pressed rather than editing photos after capture. Founded in 2019 and based in Los Altos, California, Glass Imaging previously raised about $30 million from investors. The company was founded by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, who previously led the team that developed Apple’s Portrait Mode. Rumors have previously suggested OpenAI is developing its own hardware, including smartphones, headphones and AI companion devices.
