Ontology has successfully completed its mainnet upgrade, reducing the ONG token supply from 1 billion to 800 million. This change, effective immediately, was approved by a community vote held from October 28th to October 31st, 2025, with unanimous support from Triones nodes, totaling 117 million votes. The upgrade includes the permanent burning of 200 million ONG and the introduction of a new liquidity mechanism that locks up the equivalent of 100 million ONG in ONT and ONG assets.
The ONG release period has been extended to approximately 19 years, maintaining a stable release rate of 1 ONG per second. This strategic adjustment aims to enhance long-term sustainability, liquidity, and developer support. Binance has announced its support for the Ontology network upgrade and hard fork, aligning with the community's decision to adjust the ONG token economy.
