The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has submitted a rule change proposal to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to allow the trading of tokenized securities within the existing market framework. This initiative is based on a three-year pilot by the Depository Trust Company (DTC) and aims to facilitate clearing and settlement via blockchain technology. Tokenized securities will share the same codes and shareholder rights as traditional securities, trading on the same order book and adhering to identical matching and regulatory rules, with settlement remaining at T+1. While the rule is effective immediately, regulatory authorities have a 60-day window to suspend and further review the proposal.
