NVIDIA has introduced an open humanoid robot reference design at GTC Taipei 2026, aimed at accelerating research in humanoid robotics. The design, based on the Isaac GR00T platform, features the Unitree H2 Plus robot body and Sharpa dexterous hands, offering 31 degrees of freedom. It operates on the Jetson Thor computer and incorporates NVIDIA's comprehensive software suite, including Cosmos, Isaac Lab, Isaac Teleop, and Isaac ROS.
This initiative is designed to enable universities and research institutions to commence advanced robotics research swiftly, bypassing the need for initial development. Early adopters of this technology include AI2, ETH Zurich, Stanford Robotics Center, and UC San Diego.
