North Korea is reportedly employing banned NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2700 GPUs to bolster its cryptocurrency theft operations, according to sources. These GPUs, despite U.S. export restrictions, are being used to enhance AI capabilities for activities such as deepfake video production and surveillance. State-linked groups, including the notorious Lazarus Group, are leveraging the computing power of these GPUs to scan codebases, identify vulnerabilities in smart contracts, and create AI-generated fake job seeker profiles. This technological enhancement is aimed at scaling up their crypto theft operations, highlighting the ongoing challenges in curbing North Korea's illicit activities in the digital space.
