Nicholas Truglia has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a $22 million cryptocurrency theft. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein extended Truglia's sentence after he failed to pay $20.4 million in restitution to his victims. Truglia had previously pleaded guilty to participating in a SIM swap scam that targeted Michael Terpin, CEO of Transform Group. The scheme involved deceiving telecom employees to transfer Terpin's phone number to a SIM card controlled by the hackers, allowing them to access and steal his cryptocurrency holdings, which Truglia then converted into Bitcoin.
