MSCI has finalized new eligibility criteria that could lead to the exclusion of Strategy and Metaplanet from its indices. The updated methodology, which replaces temporary restrictions on companies with digital assets exceeding 50% of total assets, will be implemented during the November 2026 index review and take effect after market close on November 30.
The new framework evaluates companies based on operating assets and five financial ratios to determine inclusion eligibility. Existing constituents must pass the screening in two consecutive annual reporting periods to maintain their index status, though MSCI may also consider recent interim reports where data is available. The final list of affected companies will be announced on November 11.
