M-Pesa Africa has announced a strategic partnership with the ADI Foundation to integrate the ADI Chain, a sovereign-grade Layer 2 blockchain, into its mobile money operations across eight African countries. This collaboration aims to enhance financial services for over 60 million users by enabling faster cross-border settlements and stablecoin-based transactions. The integration will occur in Kenya, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
The partnership will introduce a UAE dirham-backed stablecoin, issued by First Abu Dhabi Bank and IHC under the UAE Central Bank's oversight, to provide price stability in cross-border commerce. This initiative is part of a broader effort to leverage blockchain technology for financial inclusion and digital transformation in Africa, aligning with the ADI Foundation's goal of onboarding one billion people to blockchain by 2030.
