Morgan Stanley has filed an S-1 amendment with the SEC for its Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust (MSBT), a spot Bitcoin ETF to be traded on NYSE Arca. If approved, MSBT would be the first spot Bitcoin ETF issued by a major US bank, allowing Morgan Stanley to capture management fees directly, estimated between 0.20% and 0.30%. The trust will seed with 50,000 initial shares, generating approximately $1 million in starting proceeds. The custody of the ETF will be split between Coinbase Custody Trust Company for Bitcoin storage and BNY Mellon for cash management. Morgan Stanley's move comes as the SEC reviews over 126 crypto ETF applications, with competition intensifying among major financial institutions. The bank has also filed for a spot Ethereum ETF and a Solana Trust, indicating its broader crypto ambitions.
