Mizuho analysts have expressed concerns that the potential passage of the Clarity Act could pose long-term challenges for Circle's USDC stablecoin. The legislation is expected to introduce more institutional-grade competition, accelerating the commoditization of stablecoins and potentially eroding Circle's revenue. Analyst Dan Dolev highlighted that the regulatory clarity provided by the bill could attract new competitors to the market.
Additionally, Mizuho noted that Coinbase, the largest distributor of USDC, might gain leverage in upcoming revenue-sharing negotiations with Circle, especially as it already supports the Open USD stablecoin project. The distribution agreement between Circle and Coinbase could be renegotiated as early as next month. Despite these challenges, Mizuho maintains a $50 price target for Circle, whose stock recently closed at approximately $67, marking a 6% decline for the day.
