Mizuho analysts have proposed that Stripe could significantly expand its consumer market presence by acquiring PayPal. This potential acquisition would allow Stripe to transition from its traditional focus on merchant payments to a broader consumer market. Stripe's valuation stands at approximately $159 billion, making the acquisition of PayPal, valued at around $43 billion, a feasible move. The acquisition would provide Stripe with access to PayPal's extensive user base and its popular peer-to-peer payment app, Venmo, enhancing Stripe's consumer-facing brand and user network. Additionally, PayPal's Braintree merchant payment infrastructure could bolster Stripe's competitiveness, potentially adding $700 billion in total payment volume to Stripe's current annual TPV of $1.4 trillion.
