Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, along with Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, has launched a blockchain-based digital asset business, introducing a new platform called ASTOMO. This initiative, announced on October 9, 2025, includes the handling of bond-based security tokens and a partnership with fintech firm Smart Plus. ASTOMO will initially focus on real estate security token trading, enabling users to invest with a minimum of 100,000 yen through a smartphone app. In a pioneering move, Mitsubishi UFJ plans to issue public subordinated bonds in the form of security tokens, marking the first such issuance by a Japanese bank. This development underscores the bank's commitment to leveraging blockchain technology to expand its digital asset offerings.
