Two MIT graduate brothers, Anton and James Peraire-Bueno, have filed a motion in Manhattan Federal Court to exclude their Google search records from evidence in a case alleging their involvement in a $25 million crypto heist. Prosecutors claim the searches, which include terms like "top crypto lawyers" and "wire fraud statute of limitations," indicate criminal intent. However, the defense argues these searches were part of legal consultations and should be protected by attorney-client privilege. This case marks the first criminal proceeding related to the MEV-boost blockchain vulnerability. If convicted, the brothers could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge. U.S. District Judge Jessica G.L. Clarke will decide on the admissibility of the search records.
