MiniMax has updated its M2.7 license to include a new section permitting free personal use, while maintaining commercial restrictions. The update, announced by RyanLee, Head of Developer Relations, introduces Section 5, "Permitted Free Uses," which allows personal use for programming, application building, and research. Non-commercial research by non-profit organizations and academic institutions is also permitted, along with modifications for these purposes. Despite these changes, the license remains a "NON-COMMERCIAL LICENSE," requiring written authorization for commercial use, including paid services and commercial APIs. Sections 3 and 4, which previously caused controversy, remain unchanged. This means individual developers can self-deploy and run code, but third-party platforms must still seek authorization for offering M2.7 inference services.
