MetaMask has unveiled a new feature to combat address poisoning attacks, a growing threat in the crypto space. The feature identifies scam addresses that mimic those previously interacted with by users. Address poisoning attacks involve attackers sending small token amounts to a user's wallet, creating a deceptive address in the transaction history to trick users into transferring funds to it. Blockaid reports over 65.4 million such incidents from January 2025 to February 2026. The new MetaMask feature automatically checks pasted addresses against those historically interacted with, alerting users if the first and last characters match but the middle ones differ. Additionally, MetaMask has enhanced address display by showing more characters to minimize confusion. This security enhancement is now available on both MetaMask Mobile and the browser extension.
