Meta Platforms is reportedly planning layoffs within its Reality Labs division, specifically targeting the metaverse team responsible for VR headsets and social networks. According to sources, the cuts could affect 10% to 30% of the team and may begin as early as next month. The company intends to redirect funds from these layoffs to its augmented reality (AR) glasses project. Meta's AR glasses, developed in partnership with Ray-Ban, have already surpassed internal sales targets since their 2021 launch. This strategic shift indicates a re-evaluation of Meta's investment in metaverse technologies, with significant reductions expected in VR-related positions within the division.
