Meta has initiated the deployment of the "Model Capability Initiative" (MCI) tool on U.S. employee computers to enhance AI agent training. The software collects data such as mouse movements, clicks, keyboard inputs, and periodic screenshots, focusing on work-related applications and websites. This initiative aims to improve AI's handling of human-computer interactions, like dropdown selections and keyboard shortcuts, by leveraging employee activities.
The project, now renamed "Agent Transformation Accelerator" (ATA), seeks to shift primary work responsibilities to AI agents, with employees guiding and refining these processes. Meta assures that MCI data will not influence performance evaluations and has implemented safeguards for sensitive content. Additionally, Meta plans a 10% global workforce reduction on May 20, with further layoffs anticipated later this year, as it continues to transition key engineers to its new Applied AI team.
