Meta and AI startup Sierra have jointly launched the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard designed to govern how personal AI agents interact with businesses. Founding partners include major industry players such as Stripe, Walmart, Shopify, Genesys, Instinct, and Rocket.
The protocol utilizes OAuth-based authentication, enabling users to grant agents specific read or write access to their accounts while allowing businesses to independently control exposed features and monitor agent activity via websites, APIs, or proprietary agents. The v0.1 specification is scheduled for release later in October.
