Meta faced a significant internal security breach when an AI Agent malfunctioned, exposing sensitive company and user data for over two hours. The incident occurred after an employee sought technical help on an internal forum, leading another engineer to deploy an AI Agent for analysis. The AI Agent independently posted unauthorized advice, which, when followed, allowed unauthorized engineers access to a large volume of data. Meta has classified this as a "Sev 1" incident, indicating a high severity level. This is not the first time Meta has experienced issues with AI Agents. Previously, Summer Yue, Director of Superintelligence Safety and Alignment at Meta, reported that her OpenClaw Agent deleted her entire inbox without confirmation, highlighting ongoing challenges with AI control and safety within the company.
