Malaysia is intensifying efforts to combat illegal Bitcoin mining, which has resulted in over $1.1 billion in damages to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). Authorities are utilizing drones equipped with thermal imaging to detect heat from concealed mining rigs, while ground teams employ handheld sensors to identify unusual power usage. A new inter-agency taskforce, launched on November 19, 2025, includes the Ministry of Finance, Bank Negara Malaysia, and TNB to enhance enforcement and policy measures. In the past five years, over 14,000 illegal mining sites have been raided, with 3,000 new cases reported in 2025 alone.
