Makina Finance has suffered a significant loss of approximately $5 million due to a smart contract exploit, as reported by blockchain security firm Certik. The attack targeted the Dialectic USD DUSD/USDC stableswap pool, where an attacker used a $280 million USDC flash loan to manipulate the MachineShareOracle, enabling them to drain the pool of around $5 million USDC. The exploit was executed in a single transaction, with the attacker refreshing the price oracle mid-transaction.
Interestingly, a MEV bot front-ran the attacker, capturing $4.1 million of the stolen funds. The bot, identified by the address 0xa6c2, moved the funds to two new addresses. Makina Finance has confirmed the incident, describing it as isolated and urging liquidity providers to withdraw from the affected pool. The protocol has activated security measures and is investigating the breach, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities in DeFi platforms.
