A mainland businessman was reportedly detained and extorted in Hong Kong, losing cryptocurrency and silver valued at over HK$6 million. The 25-year-old victim was attacked by four mainland men at a Hung Hom hotel while discussing a silver business deal. The assailants forced him to reveal his cryptocurrency password, transferring US$680,000 worth of digital assets. They also seized 42 kilograms of silver from his company.
The businessman was released early the following morning and reported the incident to the police. Upon arrival, authorities found the suspects had already fled. The victim suffered injuries to his face, arms, and calves. The case is being investigated as unlawful imprisonment and extortion by the Kowloon City Police District Crime Squad.
