Mainland and Hong Kong police have jointly dismantled a cross-border underground banking network operating between Guangdong and Hong Kong, arresting more than 170 suspects in a coordinated operation directed by the Ministry of Public Security. Authorities froze over 15 million yuan in funds and seized assets worth approximately 170 million Hong Kong dollars linked to the criminal enterprise.
The syndicate established shell companies in both jurisdictions to facilitate illegal fund transfers through domestic and overseas matching, false trade declarations, cash and gold smuggling, and virtual currency transactions. These illicit channels provided cross-border money transfer services for gambling and fraud operations before being shut down in the concentrated enforcement action.
